“When apparent stability disintegrates,

As it must--

God is Change--

People tend to give in

To fear and depression,

To need and greed.

When no influence is strong enough

To unify people

They divide.

They struggle,

One against one,

Group against group,

For survival, position, power.

They remember old hates and generate new ones,

They create chaos and nurture it.

They kill and kill and kill,

Until they are exhausted and destroyed,

Until they are conquered by outside forces,

Or until one of them becomes

A leader

Most will follow,

Or a tyrant

Most fear.”

Octavia Butler, Parable of the Sower

This post is about media literacy. There are many ways the dominant narrative and white supremacy culture intentionally create a facade via inaccurate depictions of the oppressor vs. the oppressed. The dominant narrative binds us to individualism(a lack of regard and compassion for self and others).

The current portrayal of misinformation of the genocide of Palestinians via media outlets leads to a lack of empathy and dehumanization of folks that is all too normal in our society, especially when we think about the historical global oppression of Black and Brown folx.

A noteworthy mechanism to keep folks from having healthy relationships with themselves and others is our country's underserved wellness sector. There is a collective desensitization to violence as well as our bodies' intuition-- which is always present within us, beyond capitalist rearing. Our worth becomes dependent on our indoctrination into capitalism and elitism instead of being rooted in love, care, and community.

Our country's morality has stayed the same since 1776. We cannot turn a blind eye to what we know to be just. Who we pick and choose as worthy of life can reveal our biases or blind spots. We as citizens should never be put into a position where we must decide or question who deserves to live.  I give thanks to the folks who have held me accountable for educating myself and staying informed, as well as the folks who educate the public, are on the frontlines, and advocating for Palestinians to be free from Israel’s regime.

Sudan, Congo, Haiti, and Puerto Rico have all experienced and are experiencing colonization and neoimperialism's lasting impacts. Ecological Systems Theory and Critical Race Theory show us the insidiousness of antiblackness and racism. I will stand on the fact that if you do not understand these theories, you should not speak on any global events. When we honor Indigenous(or people of the land) ideologies of community, we value the Earth and liberation. When we value life, we cannot be bamboozled into accepting hate.

I pray for the global majority, and I will always stand on holding myself accountable to understanding the truth and the liberation of all Black and Brown people.
